Chipotle Mexican Grill
4691 First Street
Livermore, CA 94551
For #14 of The Great Livermore Restaurant Challenge, where I’ve challenged myself to try every restaurant in Livermore, I decided to brave the crowds at the brand new Chipotle on First Street.
Many of you have probably eaten at a Chipotle before. If not, they have a simple menu that features fresh and natural ingredients in their gourmet tacos and burritos at a pretty reasonable price.
Dublin used to be our closest location, but with the new Livermore restaurant, we don’t have to trek down the big parking lot we call 580 for our Chipotle cravings. It’s in the closed Chevys building which Chipotle now shares with its cousin Panera Bread.
Standing in line, which was almost out the door, I had a good chance to peek around the restaurant and watch the staff. What’s funny is the front dining area, it’s surrounded by the long line and cash registers and seems like awkward place to sit. With no rail and being so close to the customers waiting in line, I don’t think I was the only one who noticed this. The second dining room was packed. They also have a half-dozen tables outside in front as well.
Since they just opened a few weeks ago, you can tell the staff is just getting their feet wet. We waited about 30 minutes and expected the wait. Many reviewers on Yelp really bashed them though. I was kind of surprised the Yelpers didn’t cut them much slack. In short time the crew will find their groove and you’ll be in and out in no time.
I almost always get their crunchy tacos. I don’t know why I like the crunch. It’s just so satisfying to bite into the crispy shell of a taco. But this time I decided to go for a burrito which was still pretty darn good. To solve my crunch dilemma I opted for some chips and guacamole. Their guacamole is really really good!
The next time you are craving that fresh Chipotle taco crunch like I was, you no longer have to travel very far. We have our very own Chipotle now. Yay!
Isn’t Livermore a great town with all the great places to eat?
