Having discovered the Gold Country at the Sierra foothills years ago, it is one of my favorite places to fly for a number of reasons. First and foremost many well maintained airfields, a plethora of restaurants, many within walking distance, and a reasonable taxi service for those that aren’t.
A few weeks ago I talked my wife into joining me for a dinner flight. Unlike many of my friends, my wife, doesn’t care much for excitement or the unexpected. Not exactly the ideal companion for light aircraft excursions. The plan was simple, less than an hour flight, quick taxi ride, wonderful family style Italian dinner, and return trip, all within plus or minus three hours. The one thing that I didn’t take into consideration was that the restaurant might be closed for the evening – and it was! Not to worry, the taxi driver knew of another Italian restaurant in another direction, so upon his recommendation, we proceeded. As fortune would have it, it was a very nice unexpected second choice.
It was rather late on a weeknight and so we found Bella Rosa empty but doing a brisk takeout business. My wife ordered the lasagna special and I the Italian pot roast. Both were very good as were the salads and the warm bread. The most amazing thing is the price, very reasonable.
If you are in the Jackson area, Bella Rosa would not be a bad choice for lunch or dinner. The Westover/Jackson airport (KJAQ) has an office that is open 24/7 with restrooms and a soda machine where you can wait for your taxi in comfort.
